Hugo Almonte
DVM (Hons), DACV-LA
Associate Surgeon, Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital
Dr. Almonte is a board-certified equine surgeon specializing in orthopedic and emergency surgery, sports medicine, and lameness.
Dr. Hugo Almonte is originally from Durango, Mexico. He received his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a minor in Biology and Chemistry from Morehead State University, where he played NCAA Division I tennis, before earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with honors from Purdue University in 2017.
After veterinary school, Dr. Almonte completed a one-year surgical internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute followed by a surgery residency at the University of Tennessee. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Large Animal) in 2023 and currently practices as an associate equine surgeon at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Wellington, FL.
His professional interests include emergency surgery, orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, and lameness. Outside the clinic, he enjoys traveling and hiking with his wife and working on their farm.

Dr. Crandall is a board-certified equine surgeon focused on sports medicine, advanced imaging, and postoperative therapeutic management.
Dr. Alycia Crandall is a board-certified equine surgeon at Fairfield Equine Associates in Connecticut. She earned her DVM and MBA at Texas A&M University and completed her surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center in 2023.
She is passionate about providing innovative, comprehensive care to further benefit the equine athlete, with a wide appreciation for all aspects of sports medicine and surgery and specific interests in advanced imaging, emerging surgical technologies, and postoperative therapeutic management.

She currently practices with Animal Dermatology Group in Louisville, Kentucky, and is an award-winning educator who continues to teach veterinary professionals through speaking engagements, courses, and online content, with a particular focus on practical, real-world approaches to topical therapy.
