Dr. Hugo Almonte is originally from Durango, Mexico. He received his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a minor in Biology and Chemistry from Morehead State University, where he played NCAA Division I tennis, before earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with honors from Purdue University in 2017.

After veterinary school, Dr. Almonte completed a one-year surgical internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute followed by a surgery residency at the University of Tennessee. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Large Animal) in 2023 and currently practices as an associate equine surgeon at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Wellington, FL.

His professional interests include emergency surgery, orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, and lameness. Outside the clinic, he enjoys traveling and hiking with his wife and working on their farm.
